Flooding in January 2003 was the worst anyone in the parish could remember although not as bad as the catastrophic event of 1947. Since most of our houses are built on gravel and the volumes of water involved are so huge there is little specific that can be done by way of flood defence measures: the water just rises through the ground. However the parish council will continue to resist development in the flood plain which is likely to worsen flooding for people in the area. The Environment Agency uses a series of maps to predict the likely severity of flooding. These are available for download here as zoomable PDF files. See the report on a contentious public meeting about flooding with speakers from the Environment Agency here.
