VILLAGE NEWS

VILLAGE JAMBOREE

The Binfield Heath Playground Committee have invited all the village children to Dunsden Village Hall for a jamboree on Sunday 3rd February from 3-6pm. This will allow children from different parts of the village to get to know one another. Invitations have gone out but if you have not received one please contact Marguerite on 01189 483955. If you have not replied to your invitation please do so as soon as possible.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS

Another successful evening when a good turn out of residents were accompanied in their singing by the Coppid Chorale and some very enthusiastic brass players.

£133.74 was collected on the night and this will be divided between the Bishopswood Special Needs School and the Julian Starmer Smith Appeal.

COMPETITION WINNER

Martin Hill won Bill Pound’s competition to guess the number of Christmas lights decorating his house. The winning answer was 2250 the true number being 2276. Thanks to everyone who entered, £45 was raised for Bishopswood Special Needs School.

ART CLASSES

An art teacher is now running art classes in Dunsden Village Hall on Wednesday evenings from 7-9.30pm. Some places are still available at a cost of £50 for six sessions. For further information contact Sheelagh Hill on 9475441.

BUMPS AND BABES

The next meeting will be at 1 The Cobblers, Heathfield Ave. on Thursday 21st Feb. Contact Carol on 9473550 for further information.

VANDALISM

The new scramble net in the playground which replaced one vandalised in the summer, has had to be removed because it too has been vandalised. This is a costly piece of equipment that someone with a fascination with fire has purposely damaged for a second time. The scramble net is close to the wooden shelter which has also had some fire damage. We are lucky to have a playground in our village and we want all age groups to use the facilities, however vandalism plays into the hands of those who believe the playground is a costly liability. It is up to everyone, both adults and children to care for our playground.

MONDAY CLUB

In December, eighteen members met to socialise over a cup of tea and to discuss the future of the group. It is proposed to organise a speaker for the next meeting, details of which will be announced in February.

VILLAGE ELDERS’ TEA

The Village Society are again planning to host a tea for the older members of our community at Dunsden Village Hall. Invitations will be going out soon.

BOOK CLUB

The next meeting of the book club is on Tuesday, 19th February, at 8pm when we shall be reading ‘The Bone-setter’s Daughter’ by Amy Tan. If you wish to join us, contact Beth Timms on 9461987.

THE VILLAGE

We would like to welcome Paul, Sangeet & Ella Wandless to Laundry Cottage, Patrick to Claremont Villas, and the Berminghams to Kiln Lane.

Our thoughts are with the Mullaniff family of Gravel Road after the death of Bridget Mullaniff.

VILLAGE SPEED WATCH

Some villagers are organising a visit by the Speedwatch co-ordinator in the hope that we can form a group with the aim of making our village roads safer for all users. Please read the leaflet and look for posters giving the date of the talk.. For further information contact Alan Greeley on 9478834.

£500 DONATIONS

Thames Water have donated cheques for £500 to the Sue Ryder Home and to Dunsden Village Hall after residents complained last summer about the awful smell that permeated their homes. The smell emanated from organic fertiliser spread on fields between Binfield Heath and Dunsden.

KEEP FIT

WANTED, one or two new members to our small group as one regular member is about to give birth and another is having hospital treatment. We meet on Tuesdays at 2pm, in the Palmer Room, Dunsden Village Hall. The charge is £4 per session or £21 for a course of six sessions. As a self funded group we need to ensure we have a core of ten members to cover our costs. If you can help us do come along, no previous experience is necessary.

For further information contact John or Patricia Allen on 9478712
